What is B.Tech?
B.Tech (Bachelors of Technology) is a 4 years long Undergraduate level Degree program that is pursued by science stream students after the completion of Class 12th. The 4 year's duration is divided into 8 semesters, each lasting a period of 6 months. During each semester, students will have to deal with separate sets of theoretical subjects as well as practical sessions. The four year programme is offered by engineering colleges across India. The period for this course varies from 3-4 years depending on the qualification of the applicants. The course is a 4 year full time undergraduate course for the students who have done their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the core subjects, and the course period is for 3 years for the students who have done their Dimploma in Engineering after class 10th as they are eligible to fill the seats in the various engineering disciplines as Lateral Entry students seeking admission directly to the 2nd year of the B.Tech or B.E. Programme.
In India, B.Tech is the most preferred course study among the students and they are looking forward to get admitted in this B. Tech professional degree course desperately to represent themselves on the international platform. B.Tech course is somewhat more practically intensive than the BE course which is more theoretical. Engineering is a "science", dealing more with theoretical concepts & principles; technology deals more with the application of these theories for practical purposes. But, both B.E & B.Tech courses offered by various engineering colleges/ institutes, have similar curriculum more or less. Both degrees are valued equally by prospective employers. What matters more is the reputation of the engineering college from where you obtain your B.E/ B.Tech degree.
The Eligibility criteria to the course of B.Tech remains as follows:-
- Minimum 50% marks as the qualifying marks in subjects of PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, MATHEMATICS as an aggregate in 10+2 Qualifying exam from CBSE or any other Recognized Qualifying Board.
- Minimum 50% marks as the qualifying marks in Diploma or B.Sc degree from a recognised State Board or University in the trade related to which the students wants to and is eligible to pursue Engineering in by filling in the lateral entry seats.
- However to seek admission to these engineering courses scores or a minimum cut-off marks in many engineering entrance Exams like AIEEE, IIT-JEE, JEE pre JEE Mains and engineering entrance tests as set by the various government or private universities are also set as the eligibility criteria for admission to these courses.

The first year of the B.Tech course is common for all the branches. The engineering is split into its specialized branches from the course of study and curriculum in the succeeding 3 years of this 4-year Undergraduate programme i.e. Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, etc.
The specialized course study starts from the second year. 6. Termination of contract

The engineering graduates can also work as engineers in the private and public sectors and having scored good marks in academics as well as qualifying exams set by various PSUs and Government Organizations like ISRO, BHEL. NHPC, ONGC and many more can acquire jobs offering handsome salaries there. Apart from these they can also work at appreciable salary packages in many Multi National Companies as well.
